Journal History

1857 - The beginning of the publishing house

The publications related to natural sciences date back to the beginning of the society bearing the name: Towarzystwo Przyjaciół Nauk Poznańskiego.

The Section of Natural Sciences (Wydział Nauk Przyrodniczych) first published a brochure in 1859 which consisted of 26 pages. The first Board of the Society (1857) decided to issue a journal on an annual basis. The editor was Wladyslaw Niegolewski, a renowned activist for science in the Wielkopolska region. In 1860 the first volume was published (Roczniki Towarzystwa Przyjaciół Nauk - see on picture).

The publishing of journals has contributed to the systematic exchange of publications. From 1864 annals were sent to a number of important national and international research centres. PTPN is continuing with this exchange, which involves more than 400 major institutions holding the world's scientific publications.
