RELATIVE DENSITY OF NORWAY SPRUCE (Picea abies L. Karst) WOOD OBTAINED FROM A SEED ORCHARD

Abstract

The aim of the survey was to examine the relative density of Norway spruce (Picea abies L. Karst) wood obtained from a seed orchard. The survey relied on material from planned felling on plantation no. 52 in the Susz forest Division (the Olsztyn Regional Directorate of State-Owned forests) established in 1988. Under scrutiny were samples collected from 10 maple trees at breast height diameter. The survey results indicate a significant variation in density among maple trees and non-standard distribution of density in a radial arrangement. Wood tended to be less dense around the perimeter.
