Quantitative analysis of shelterbelts adjacent to fields exposed to road pollution in the area of the city of Poznan

Abstract

Agricultural areas located near traffic routes are frequent elements of the landscape of growing urban centers. The agricultural products cultivated there are subject to increased amounts of pollution from the roads, as the road traffic volume there is higher than in any typically agricultural area. The degree of completeness of shelterbelts surrounding the arable land in terms of their capabilities in reducing the impact of pollution from roads will be presented on the example of the city of Poznan.
The study shows that:
1. The share of the area used for agricultural in the city of Poznan in 2003-2012 did not change significantly.
2. Most of the areas used for agriculture are located near municipal and county categories of roads.
3. Trees and shrubs can be observed along 15.19% of the total length of roads adjacent to fields, and they are not able to intercept
spread of road pollution in the studied areas.
4. Drop of gaps length in road green taking under consideration analyzed road categories shows following order: national > Internal > municipal > county > provincial for non-urbanized and municipal > county > internal > national > provincial for urban areas.
